United to End Racism (UER) at the European Social Forum September 2008
UER sent a twenty-five person delegation led by Susanne Langer to the European Social Forum (ESF) in Malmoe, Sweden, in September 2008. The delegation from several European countries included black people and white people, younger and older people, women and men. Diane Shisk assisted Susanne and led a two-day RC workshop for the delegation prior to the forum.
At the forum, the UER team staffed a literature table where there were translations of key pamphlets and articles into nine languages. The team also conducted listening projects, ran support groups and delegation led 7 workshops that were also translated by UER delegates into several languages.
Four of the workshops were announced in the Forum’s schedule and these were:
- Listening as a Tool in Ending Racism and other Oppressions
- Listening as One Tool in Social Transformation
- Listening as a Tool for Ending War
- East/West Relationships and Alliances
Three of the workshops were organized at the ESF and not in the program but were still well attended. These were:
- Uniting People Targeted by Racism
- The Role of White People in Ending Racism
- Strategies Against Racism
