A. THE RE-EVALUATION COUNSELING COMMUNITY

A.6. Handling Difficulties in Relationships in the RC Community

All relationships are likely to experience difficulties at some point given early hurts and the effect that living in oppressive societies has on each of us. We have several procedures to prevent and address difficulties in relationships. All Co-Counselors should familiarize themselves with these Guidelines and modes of counseling:

  1. Guideline M.1. The No-Socializing Policy
  2. Guideline M.5. Handling Oppressor Patterns including Sexual Misconduct, and Addressing Mistakes, Disagreements, and Criticism
  3. Co-Counseling session reports in classes[25]
  4. Guideline C.3. Structure of RC Classes
  5. Relationship sessions[26]
  6. Self-estimation with feedback for leaders (see Note II. Self Estimation [print version page 100])

REASON

The strength of the RC Community is based on our relationships with each other. Our distresses must be addressed so that we can discharge on them to build stronger relationships with each other and stronger Communities. This keeps our distresses from adversely affecting the RC Community.

[25] Reports on Co-Counseling sessions in RC classes help clients examine their progress as clients and counselors and improve their counseling and clienting. See: rc.org/cocounselingreports

[26] In a relationship session, a third Co-Counselor is brought into a Co-Counseling session to strengthen a relationship, including to help with a difficulty. They may counsel each person or assist each pair to counsel each other.
