ELIMINATING THE EFFECTS OF RACISM ON OUR WORK TO SUSTAIN ALL LIFE

In our workshops we share our perspective on current environmental issues and how we have used the tools of Re-evaluation Counseling to free ourselves and others from emotional hurts that have interfered with our thinking and functioning. Our workshops are interactive, giving participants the chance to share their experiences and be listened to. 

Overview of Workshop:

Racism has had a deeply damaging and divisive effect on everyone. Understanding and healing the effects of racism on us as individuals is a necessary step in creating a movement that can sustain all life and restore the environment.

90 minutes

10 min

  1. Native Land and occupation
  2. Introduce self, Workshop Team and UER/SAL
  3. Talk about language liberation; interpreting; 20 minutes of silence
  4. Describe our goals in this workshop and what we will do today.
  5. Brief description of RC, UER/SAL,  and RC’s work on environment and racism.

10 Min

Mini-session 2 minutes each way:

introducing this basic tool of RC/UER/SAL

Explain roles of listener and speaker and the healing effect of being listened to.

 

25 min

(4 people x 5 min each)

Introduce each team member in turn, describing what they will speak about.

Each speaker describes

  1. their race/ethnicity as part of their background experience in doing this work. 
  2. a sentence or two about how racism and climate change has affected their people.
  3. Describes how they have used RC in eliminating the effects of racism;  in their lives; in their organization, etc.
