A Yom Kippur Workshop on Facing the Climate Emergency
I led a non-RC Yom Kippur afternoon workshop on facing the climate emergency as Jews. In it I laid out [shared] aspects of Ashkenazi experience that can make it difficult for us to flock to the climate justice movement. Our experiences include suffering repeated attempts at genocide, becoming ungrounded and wandering, and (for many of us) being urban Jews.
There were three breakout sessions (mini-sessions) on the following topics: How do you feel connected to the natural world? What would you have to face to get involved in the climate movement? What is one action you could decide to take? (I explained that it could be simply having a conversation with someone who may not completely agree with you about the climate emergency.)
I was pleased that eighteen people showed up [attended].
