“Reason to Be Pleased”

There is nothing stunningly new about Tim Jackins’ lead article in the July 2015 Present Time, “We Have the Resources to Recover from Everything.” It’s the result of much ongoing work, by thousands of people. Yet this package of thoughts, this choice of words, stands out among things I’ve heard or read in the last two decades. If we return to read it each week, I’m guessing the benefits will be large. We won’t see it the same way from week to week.

Tim’s article connects well to Harvey Jackins’ quote on the cover: “Over and over, the high points in human existence are when one has struggled to the limits of one’s ability and still not won and then the upward trend appears and provides the additional support that turns imminent defeat into victory.”

The July issue of Present Time suggests that our successes in recent years have far outweighed our mistakes in terms of overall impact. Reason to be pleased, and not nearly satisfied.
