"Absolutely Wonderful" Work
I am just back from West Africa. I received a small grant from the Ford Foundation to work with women I met at the Women's Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Forum in Beijing. The travel was trying and difficult, but the work was absolutely wonderful. It was one of those times when I felt so often like a witnessñprivileged to be part of what was going on, with some small awareness that it had something to do with me, but overwhelmed with the magnitude of it all.
Virginia Blackburn traveled with me and had a big impact on the work and in creating potential for a big liberation movement there. We met with women in various parts of Nigeria and in Cameroon. We also met with two men's groups that grew out of a visit I made to Nigeria two years ago. I taught my taxi driver something about RC. He has since taught other people at his workplace and members of his extended family. There may be a women's group growing out of his teaching as well.
Anyway, I am so excited about what happened there and encouraged by the prospects.
